Riddle me this...

Folks, I'm a bit confused. What is new right?

:)

My legs are strong, 500lb leg presses make me think very strong. WHY am I having trouble with the Squat Clean at 55lbs? While in the gym this morning I practiced my cleans with 55lb barbell and getting up from the squat was really difficult! I know that 45lbs is too light but 55lb seems too heavy? It's odd to me. I do realize different muscles are at play here but still, my legs are stronger than this. I'm not complaining just wondering if it's all in my head.

Perhaps I'll just keep the heavier weight but not get in all reps as prescribed. Today's gym workout was Chest/Ab focused with a TOUGH as nails hill spin class. Oucha ma goucha!

Crossfit works

After 4 months of CF, many of my friends and co-workers are commenting on my arms, YAY!!! Progress that shows! The Black Box summit is going on today and I'm super jealous!!!!Man, I'd love to be soaking in all that million dollar information.

Paleo going well...3 pans of veggies being roasted, chicken/fish being cooked. My stomach is leaner and I'm feeling pretty damn good today! Tried my first Persimmon fruit, only to find it very bitter..bleech.

Packing, packing, packing.

Sushi tonight:)

This is a common thing for those who have used leg press machines alot. If can be a number of thing. Mentally, have a weight on your back is nerve wracking sometimes. The squat also has a much different range of motion, an element of instabilty and requires strong hamstrings, hips and glutes. Whereas the leg press is mostly quad and has a stable, fixed bar path and requires very little skill. I see guys at my globo that leg press 1000lbs, but can't squat a O bar properly. The two are not related.

As well, squat cleans are even more skill heavy, as there is a catching element and you are dropping into a squat at faster pace than normal. Don't concern yourself with the weight, grease the groove, learn the skills, get those hammy's strong and you'll be fine.

Ahhh you are so right! Not much skill needed in pushing weight upward but the Cleans ARE much more technical.

I admit that I do have some fear when it comes to those lifts and weight.

Thanks Robbie!See ya in class:)

Squats use more muscles than Leg Press, and probably more intertia, so the amount of Glycogen and ATP, you'd have to use for the Squat movement, would be much greater, not least because of the way you stand instead of lying down, so you're basically with Bar based squatting, also increasing the amount of loadbearing of weight, across a larger surface area of the body, so you're increasing the amount of tolerances you must endure, with every single rep.

Plus Leg Pressing may potentially not cause you to use all the selected weight. If any of the weight gets distributed throughout the machines structure, (I'm not sure about that), what you select and what you use rep for rep, may not be the same thing.

It's not even beyond the realms of possibility, it could possibly be even less than 50%, if what I said happened significantly, but like I say, I can't be sure of that.

Also with Leg Presses, it depends on the machine. You will get some difference in resistance, depending on whether you

A: Push away from the footplate, if it's a Sled based one.

B: Push the footplate away from you, and keep an upright torso, if it's a seat based one, because that is the opposite movement of the Legs, and a slightly different gravitational effect on the Legs, due to the different positioning.

So not to put your lifts down, but be aware, if what I said about Leg Pressing is in any way true, your stated lifts, may not be actually as high as you think.

The main thing is here, that you are doing so well, you are clearly making such great progress and that's all that matters.

I am really proud of you, and if you doing this sort of thing makes you happy, then keep doing it, because it makes me happy for you, and I also wish you well in the new place you're moving to.

GOOD LUCK with everything you continue to do and know that no matter where you reside, I will still be here for you, for as long as you wish.

You're pretty amazing misses.

:-) :-).
