Need Advice

One of my good hashing buddies invited me to her wedding in June, takes place in Boston. I've never been to Boston and always wanted to go. There will also be many friends I have not seen in years. Here is the problem, I was expecting money back from the IRS and now have to pay..Grrrrrr. I have to pay them about 300$ total with my CPA fees. I also planned to payoff my CC which has a bit of a dent in it right now. Plus my health insurance bills me every 3 months and that is about 250$. Is it worth spending 400-500 out of my savings, to take this trip?
Would I be foolish to do so?

Had a great month last month and should get me a 250$ bonus and maybe I could muster another one this month...Plus you only live once.

I don't know. My friend really wants me to go.....She got upset on the phone when I started to back out. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Help.

You should go, what is 400-500 dollars really worth if it's just sitting around in savings? I couldn't think of a better reason to spend money than to go to a place I've never been and attend a wedding for one of my peeps.

I think it would really depend on how close you guys are and if you have any other travel plans for the summer. I've never been to Boston either, but some things just aren't worth getting yourself into a bigger hole. Is she going to live in Boston? Maybe you could take a trip sometime just to visit her after all the wedding madness. I can tell you that the bride never gets to hang out in one place for a very long time and you may not even have a chance to see her all that much.
I wasn't able to go to my college roommates wedding, who was also my made of honor. She got married on a cruise two months before we closed on our house, and we just couldn't manage it. She understood.

Only you know your posistion and she isn't the one paying for your bills and all to get upset if you just can't afford to go. That said if you think you;ll regret not going then you should go but don't go and get into a bigger hole, just out of guilt to her. And remember not only will you have plane tickets you;ll have a hotel bill and food..... On things like this I always try and listen to my gut usually I already know the answer....

If you were just going there to see the sights I'd say "be responsible -plus autumn is the best time to visit new england." But this is for a friend's wedding. Friends' weddings trump fiscal responsibility any day; plus boston is an awesome city in any season.

If you decide to go let me know I'll give you a list of cool places (read: bars) in the boston/cambridge area.

Ok folks..so we have two that say fuck it and spend it and two that say...hold back and don't dig a deeper hole.

Seriously though...thanks guys for giving me feedback. i have been stressing over this for weeks..unsure of my next move.

I might take a P/T weekend job to help pay off some bills and then it might be feasible.

If anyone knows where I can find a big lush money tree...please email me offline:)

You guys rock.

Uh, go.

I mean how much would you regret not getting to see Boston if you got hit by a car and killed next week?

Wait, you probably wouldn't regret anything, you'd be dead.

Oh, man.......back to the drawing board.

I would say go

And if you want some cash, get a french maid outfit, my apartment could use some serious cleaning.

I have seen your apt....No way jose:)

I say go. You have three good reasons in your first three sentences. You will pay yourself back eventually. In a year you won't even remember how much it cost.

I didn't know you were going for your CPA. That's cool.

I have only been to Massachusetts once and I wasn't thrilled. If you go I'd do it because you want to see your friend and the wedding, but I wouldn't go into debt just to see Boston. It will be around for awhile longer and you could go when you can better afford it.

I know I haven't given a definite, 'go/no go' here, but since you don't know me I don't think my opinion counts much. Also, I don't know you well so I don't know if you'd be upset at missing this wedding. I just wouldn't go if the main motivation is to see Boston. You have plenty of time to see that. I couldn't go into that much debt for this, but that's just my personality.

OK, my previous comments was just plain useless. Sorry for that.

French maid's outfit? Damn, you could make the money for the trip and then some.

Hmmmmm I do own a naughty housewife costume..hmmm

MB said...

Housewife Outfit?

So, you own a pair of sweats and a old baggy sweatshirt?

Trojan said...

naughty housewife costume...hello people!

Chlamydia said...

Oh, a naughty housewife... an old tee shirt and a pair of Lee jeans?

I wore it to the end of the Burnet Road challenge..aka Halloween weekend. Interesting night...that night.

I think you should go. Friends are one of the most important things in the world...much more so than money. So it takes you a few more months to pay off a credit card. You will find a way. And if you need help, let me know. I know a private banker who can lend you money at a low, low, low rate with a pay when you can option.....if you need it. love ya!

geez, like I can remember the end of the BRC. Hey my apartment is neat, it just needs a little cleaning, like floors and stuff. Yeah maybe my bathroom too.

That was the night I got to throw Brownie out of my apt...Ahh good times!

I say go. Like WS said, u could always pay off your cc later.

Caution, drinks NE are expensive. And hotels are not cheap either. I think it will be more than $500.

I just went on a short trip to NY and spent about $1000 (include airfare). I didn't even buy a lot.

Your friend only gets married once (hopefully). Debt is forever.

You all are missing the big picture here, getting Trojan to clean my place in some sexy outfit. Wedding, no wedding, it doesn't matter, clean place for fish to live and having it cleaned by a hottie, that is the real issue here.

Actually in all seriousness, I say go for it. Babsy you have been wanting to travel for a while. Having a reason to travel makes it a lot easier. Boston is a wonderful town, I almost went to Boston College; so I have visited there many times and have always enjoyed it.

I used your Roomates bathroom once....once....once..I am scarred for life.

Guess what? Jet Blue has roundtrip tickets for $154 or $174 straight flight in the beginning of June.

PlaysByEar said...

Despite that fact that Fish likes Boston, you should still go

Trojan said...

FM..I have been checking the Jetblue site daily...where did you hear this? Man this would totally make my day

If you want to go you will find a way. Sometimes rearranging finances is not all that hard, once you sit down and go through it...

is the savings worth the life-time of regret on your part and the endless guilt from your friend? not that she'd do that, but why not just go for it. after all, it's not like you've been there a million times, lol. :) just here to help. ;)

dayoldfish said...

that reminds me, I need to start shopping for tickets to Colorado

Trojan said...

sigh...ok i'm going. Thanks you guys are awesome. Where there is a will there is a way.:)

dayoldfish said...

oh yeah, my roommates bathroom has been cleaned since he moved out

MB said...

Does this mean you aren't going to be cleaning Fish's place?

Trojan said...

That would be a huge nagative..He can't afford me either:)

MeatGazer said...

WooHoo Colorado!!! TW, just go, I think Boston would be fun! You only live once!!!!

Ken said...

You only live once! What a better way to live it than taking a small risk like spending money to go see friends. You may be a little poorer in the account side, but you'll end up being richer on the social and personal side.

EZ said...

Troj, looks like you let the guys talk you into going. I would stop and realy analize this. If you can do it great, but I still agree with DNA and Kate.
Although the maid outfit does sound fun. I pay my cleaner $100 a month, and she does an OK job. I'd pay you that, your way cuter.

Memphis Steve said...

OK, I wasn't at the Halloween thing. What is the naughty housewife costume?

Trojan said...

It's sexy:)

Sounds like you are in a cash crunch. Go with the part time job to help you earn the funds you need.
